Mission

Serve as a platform for addressing shared global challenges through nanoscale science, engineering, technology development, and education.

Goals

  1. Engage diverse partners across regions, disciplines and economic sectors
  2. Create opportunities for collaborative research and education
  3. Develop the next generation of global leaders in nanotechnology research and education
  4. Promote nanoeducation as a means of increasing science literacy and public awareness of nanotechnology worldwide
  5. Serve as a global clearinghouse in nano research and education, providing resources for the global nano community.

Four Program Strands

GNN programs and initiatives focus on four integrated program strands:

Education: Nanoeducation has excellent potential for raising science literacy. Nanoscale phenomena and cutting-edge nanotechnologies help make basic science concepts more interesting and relevant to students, and the inherent interdisciplinarity of nanoscience makes it an ideal focus for improving skills in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM).

The GNN holds nanoeducation events that bring nano researchers and educators together to improve science education. GNN also helped launch the Global School for Advanced Studies - a global leadership development program for young researchers around the world.

Research: Nanoscale science and technology can produce solutions to some of the world's most urgent problems, from clean renewable energy sources to technologies for cleaning our air, providing safe drinking water and curing diseases. The GNN is a platform enabling researchers with complementary research capabilities to collaborate towards solving these pressing problems.

Facilities: Nano research requires specialized equipment and close cooperation across fields and disciiplines. The GNN fosters sharing of nano-related facilities worldwide.
