The Global School for Advanced Studies (GSAS) held its second session on Advanced Solar Cell Research in Sydney, Australia in July 2008.
The Session assembled talented graduate students and senior experts from Australia, Germany, Taiwan and the US and challlenged them to design an innovative collaborative project that would advance solar cell research.
GSAS was launched in 2006 with a dual mission to address global research challenges in energy, environment and health, while preparing young researchers from around the world to collaborate effectively with global partners.
The Sydney Session offered Scholars the opportunity to interact with their international peers, attend a focused lecture series, and plan colloaborative projects with expert mentoring
from some of the world's top experts in solar cell technology, including:
- Prof. David Officer, University of Wollongong (Australia)
- Prof. Paul Dastoor, University of Newcastle (Australia)
- Dr. Andreas Hinsch of the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy (Germany)
- Prof. Weifang Su, National Taiwan University (Taiwan)
- Prof. H.N. Lin, National Tsinghua University (Taiwan)
- Prof. Tobin Marks of Northwestern (US)
Students presented their preliminary ideas for feedback after the Session, and are continuing to develop their collaborative project.
